Re: Configuring IMAP iPhone
Yeah, sure you can use IMAP on iPhone as well. To do so, first you need to Enable IMAP in your main Gmail settings. You can follow the same instruction that re in the above mentioned post for doing the same.

Once you finished doing this, you have some recommended IMAP client settings. Just follow these steps:-

From your mail account's Advanced Settings:
Deleted Mailbox > On My iPhone > Trash
Deleted Messages > Remove > Never

With these settings, messages deleted from the web interface will show up only under your [Gmail]/Trash folder. In addition, messages trashed from the iPhone will show up under your iPhone Trash folder and your [Gmail]/All Mail folder.

Re: Configuring IMAP iPhone
For configuring IMAP iPhone, first you need to enable IMAP from your Gmail account settings. Once you are finished doing that, go though these steps for configuration:-

On your iPhone or iPod touch's home screen, tap Settings
Tap Mail
Tap Add Account...
Tap Other
Tap Add Mail Account
Enter your account information, being sure to use your full Gmail address (or full Google Apps email address)
Tap Save
For Incoming Mail Server:
Host Name is 'imap.gmail.com'
User Name is your full Gmail address, including '@gmail.com' (or full Google Apps email address)
For Outgoing Mail Server:
Host Name is 'smtp.gmail.com'
User Name is your full Gmail address, including '@gmail.com' (or full Google Apps email address)
Tap Save
