The hardware platform around which could turn the development of the new Mac mini Apple seems to be Ion NVIDIA, the solution the giant Californian has created for use with Atom processors.
According to a series of indiscretions that bounce on the next generation of Mac mini, therefore, to host an internal integrity chipset NVIDIA 9400M (the same on all existing systems for Apple laptops) and an Intel Atom 330 dual-core solution to 1.6 GHz operating frequency of 533MHz and the FSB.
Apple would have some time to work on this platform: items corridor indicate that the Colossus of Cupertino has received prototypes long before other NVIDIA partners that have expressed interest in Ion.
The use of an Atom processor for a system like the Mac Mini could also buy optical effect in the future: with the launch of Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" in the market Apple will have the technology required to exploit the hardware acceleration of the GPU Open through CL. This would offset the performance of the Atom processor and then give way to Apple to create an economic system but still flexible.
The interest in the Apple platform Ion could, however, be quite different mold. The characteristics of the new NVIDIA platform, in fact, appear well reconciled with a device as Apple TV, where the low consumption and low noise operation are key elements that must be reconciled with the ability to manage content in high definition. All tasks that Ion is able to play.
